Wailing Lord's Forest R/Mo Soloable?
Anyone think it is possible to solo this forest with a Ranger/Monk? So far I've come up with:
Barrage
Distracting Shot
Storm Chaser
Dodge
Troll Unguent
Protective Spirit
Balthazars Spirit
Protective Bond
I've been able to take out shepards, worms, and spirit woods. Spiders are a pain. I've only managed to kill one and then I died from poison, and it dropped an obsidian shard
Here are some screens:

Screen 2
Can anyone think of any improvements to this build?

Fissure of Woe
This is the Wailing Lord's Forest in the Fissure of Woe. The realm of Balthazar. To stay more on topic, I replaced dodge with penetrating attack. As of right now I'm halfway through the forest. So I guess I have answered my own question.

a thought
maybe try lowering hp a lil to make pro sirit more productive not as low as 55 monk but 50-75hp can make a difference.
and possibly mending to maintain you hp.
Just a thought. nice job.

I was gonna suggest an I-Ranger but... why do you have Prot Spirit and Prot Bond with 200+ hp?
Just switch out runes once you get to the Forest.

I use protective spirit when fighting the Spirit Woods. When fighting two I have 105 HP when just fighting one I have 180 HP. If I can't cast troll unguent on time or protective spirit dies then I can at least take a hit or two. Natures Renewal thwarts any attempt to use prot bond.
I have two sets of armor from which I mix and match, depending on the situation. I'm using a high health because I want to be able to survive without trolls constantly up. E.g. to interupt a Shepards chain lightning. Trolls has a three second casting time, which can mean death with lower health.

I can, in fact I already have. This was posted in the Tyrian Explorers League. You can find my guide here: aag.dns1.us/fowforestv2.html
I'm working on two more builds, other than just the one in the guide. The current one only requires Protective Bond and only one set of armor. Have fun.

I've actually been playing with a R/W build that I think will work. I'll play with it some more than post something later on. But it uses the Barrage, Distracting Shot, Dodge, Storm Chaser part of your build. I went R/W cause I like Heal sig better than Troll Ungent. But it might not work, I'm kinda taking a couple of builds I like and trying to graft them together.

Sorry for the double post, but I have a question for the op.
I've managed to get to the forest, and kill everything in the entrance with the build I'll post below. But I've run into problems when I get farther back the shepards start casting spells. Why don't the Shepards in the beginning of the forest cast spells. I'm using a longbow, and all they do is attack with their wands. Do they normally cast spells as well, or is it just the shepards farther back that start casting spells. What am I doing, if anything, different that cause them to start casting spells? The build I used easily took down the non casting variety and the spirit woods and with a little effort the spiders...but past the entrance...no luck.
Barrage, Distracting Shot, Storm Chaser, Dodge, Whirling Defense, Watch Yourself, Shields up, and Heal sig.

I would have to say that the R/W build would work only when, as you've described the Spirit Shepard's are attacking you. When they begin casting they do quite a lot of damage.
When you pull them with a longbow, once the arrow attracts their attention, begin moving back. Keep moving until it is only you and them. When you stop, DO NOT move again until all Spirit Shepard's are dead. If you move, one or more Spirit Shepard's will come after you and begin casting. I tend to do this as often as possible, it is much safer having them attack you, rather than cast.
You might want to get Kindle Arrows in their somewhere. It seems to do a lot of damage against the woodland creatures. The spiders tend to give my builds a difficult time.
If you are able to clear the forest with your R/W build I would love to hear about it. Good luck.
On a semi-related note, a better build than the original I posted is(taken from my post on another board):
R/Mo
Skills:
Dual Shot
Savage Shot
Serpents Quickness
Storm Chaser
Troll Unguent
Kindle Arrows
Greater Conflagration{E}
Protective Bond
Attributes:
Protection Prayers: 8
Expertise: 13
Wilderness Survival: 14
Marksmanship: 11
You need 3 superior runes and preferably 305 health. The run is a bit different than the run for the build in my guide. You only need one set of armor for this one. Enjoy.

Okay, that's what I was hoping. I should be able to clear the forest with my build then. I think I've just been getting a little too close and triggering their nuke response. I'm gonna tweak the build a bit before I post anything definative. Thanks!

Don't bother with an I-Ranger. Or 55hp ranger or whatever you wanna call it.
3 energy regen just isn't enough.

LAMS3K, do you suffer at all from losing barrage? Dual seems like it should make it up a bit, but having the "up to 6 targets" Barrage helps. I understand why you're using Greater Conflag though... nice strategy

No, Dual Shot essentially multiplies the damage Kindle Arrows does, which is more than Barrage can do to a single target. The attacking is pretty much spiking. I get a Spirit Shepard down to about half health after using dual and savage twice. It is by far faster than the original build I posted in this thread and even faster than the one in my guide. It does however, slow down on the Armored Cave Spiders. I use a fire string and a pruning mod to increase the damage.

Yea, I'm having a major problem killing and surviving the stupid spiders. I'm trying to decide if it's something it'll take a bit of practice to do, or if my build just won't work against them. I fly through everything else.
I do have another question for the op. Do you make it to the forest 100% of the time? I've found that a number of times an impossible situation comes up, and there's just no way around the elementalist mesmer group at the narrow canyon that leads to the battlefield full of skeletons because the first group of skeletons spawned to close to the mouth of the canyon. Have you found a way around that? And I've not had much luck following your path to the forest (the one you posted on your guide) I usually follow the same path I'd use with my warrior on the way to the shore, and then just continue on instead of turning towards the shore.

I will once I get it to work most of the time. Right now it'd just be a video of me getting to the spiders...But I'll work on it some more, see if I can't get it working.

I can make it to the forest most of the time. The Shadow Mesmer and Elementals are not much of a threat. Just run in, shoot an arrow(preferably from a longbow or flatbow) at the skeletals and run. This should get them angry and they will come up and fight the shadows. While they are fighting, you run through.
I recommend against using the path outlined in my guide unless you are using that particular build. But even then it is more dangerous than just going around, as you've described.
